Hundreds of undocumented migrants die every year trying to cross the dessert for the promise of a better life in the United States. Depending on how far south their journey begins, stories can be from heart breakingly brave to brutally horrifying to sadly deadly.
The Arizona, US-based all-volunteer Samaritans are “people of faith and conscience who are responding directly, practically and passionately to the humanitarian crises at the US/Mexico border”
They provide food, water, blankets and medicine to migrants who are in dire need of these services. Coordinating with other humanitarian organizations, they arrange for and service unmanned water stations throughout the Arizona desert. They patrol the desert on foot. They’ve also bootstrapped migrant resource centers to provide immediate aid and guidance to some of the hundreds of detained migrants released back into Mexico daily.
